The rich history of Toowoomba Grammar School is entwined with the boys who walk its paths today.

You can feel the spirit of the Blue and Gold, the pride each student has in being part of something greater and the lasting imprint they wish to leave for future generations.

One hundred and fifty years ago, the Foundation Stone was laid in School House. On 1 February 1877, the doors opened, and students filled the classrooms of Old Hall. Soon after, names began appearing on the mudstone bricks, a tradition that quietly endured until the last boarders moved from School House in 2013. Today, these bricks stand as a powerful reminder of the past, each one representing a boy with his own unique story and memories of the School.

This year, we have a rare and meaningful opportunity for our Old Boys, current and past families and staff to etch their names into the history of Toowoomba Grammar School. We invite you to Buy a Brick and be part of building our Old Boys’ Deck. Your uniquely engraved brick will be laid in the walls of this new landmark overlooking the iconic Old Boys’ Memorial Oval - a space for our entire School community to enjoy.

Each boy who walks these grounds leaves his own story behind. Buy a Brick and ensure your connection to the Blue and Gold stands strong for generations to come.

The Old Boys’ Deck is a project built on generosity and tradition. The Toowoomba Grammar School Old Boys’ Association has made a significant contribution towards its construction, with the School also playing a key role in bringing the vision to life. Now, we invite our community to be part of this legacy.

How to be part of this legacy

With a limited number of bricks available, this is a rare opportunity to create a lasting connection to Toowoomba Grammar School. Bricks are available for purchase at $1,000 each, and you are welcome to secure more than one. This donation is tax-deductible. Each brick can be engraved with first names and surnames, with the option to include years for both Old Boys and current students. Should you wish to donate more, please contact our Director of Philanthropy and Fundraising.

Engraving Standard:

  • Maximum of 17 characters per line, including spaces and punctuation.
  • Up to 3 lines per brick.
  • No messages or additional text.
  • Please use capital letters.
  • Please use '&' instead of 'and'.

To allow families and individuals the freedom to personalise their bricks, several formatting options will be available. Please note, years are only available to Old Boys or current students:

  • Traditional format for Old Boys – e.g., Line 1: JOHN SMITH, Line 2: 1973–77
  • Family format with expected graduating year – e.g., Line 1: JJ SMITH 2023, Line 2: AA SMITH 2025, Line 3: MC SMITH 2027
  • Name-only option – e.g., Line 1: THE SMITH FAMILY, or Line 1: SMITH FAMILY, Line 2: CHARLIE, SARAH, Line 3: & JAMES, or Line 1: JAMES SMITH

These options offer flexibility for families with multiple students, long names, or those seeking a different approach, allowing you to choose the format that best reflects your unique TGS story. This tradition will continue to unite generations of Grammarians, celebrating the rich history and bright future of the School in true blue and gold spirit.

To ensure the integrity of the design, bricks will be randomly placed throughout the build, and while donors won’t be able to select a specific location, every brick will be thoughtfully positioned to remain visible—a significant tribute for future generations to discover. Construction will commence once all funds have been raised, making every contribution a vital step in bringing this special project to life.
