We are one of the largest and most well-established boys’ boarding schools in Australia, with boarding dating back to 1877
Boarding is a fundamental component of Toowoomba Grammar School and we value the positive influence that these boys have on our School community. Our boarding family consists of approximately 300 boys who come from all over Australia, Papua New Guinea, China, Hong Kong, South Pacific Islands and Europe. They are attracted here because TGS offers all the facilities and opportunities of equivalent schools in metropolitan areas, but we have the advantage of being based in a beautiful, relaxed regional area. Toowoomba is situated just an hour and a half from Queensland’s capital, Brisbane, only two hours from the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and is known as being a warm and inclusive community with strong, traditional family values.
Our boarding houses
We have five boarding houses for students in Years 8 to 12; Mackintosh, Boyce, Taylor, Stephens and Groom. To accommodate the unique needs of our youngest boarders who are making the transition into secondary school, Corfe House is home to boarders in Years 5 to 7. Each boarding house is led by a Head of House who is a teacher in the School and lives with their family in accommodation within the boarding house. This close proximity allows each Head of House to supervise the boys as they would in a home environment, and to form strong connections with each boy. In addition, each boarding house has another member of the teaching staff as the Assistant Head of House as well as a full-time and part-time resident tutor. All staff work exclusively in that house, providing consistent supervision and developing the relationships with boarders that allow consistent supervision and excellent pastoral care.
Each boy has his own private space which includes his bed, desk and wardrobe. Each boarding house has its own common areas, kitchenettes, shared bathrooms, and rooms. The kitchenettes are available for snacks and supper with the boys eating breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Centenary Dining Hall. These nutritious meals are made on-site by our passionate team of chefs and dining staff under the guidance of Australia’s leading catering service, Chartwells.
Our campus
The Toowoomba Grammar School campus is a community within itself. We have many families living on site, creating a local community atmosphere for our boarders and ensuring they are surrounded by an extended family who are invested in their growth and development and have their best interests at heart.
We have an onsite Health Centre that is operational 24 hours a day, our boarders have access to all our sports facilities, weights room and aquatic centre for their health and fitness needs and co-curricular activities are all conducted on campus. Added to that, it’s just a short walk from the School to the centre of town, Grand Central Shopping Centre and numerous eateries making boarding life exciting and convenient.
Come and visit us
Families are very welcome to visit TGS and take a tour of the School and our boarding facilities. Tours are available during the school day, outside of business hours and on weekends, however we do encourage families to tour during the school day where possible to see our school in action.
