Join us as we celebrate Toowoomba Grammar School’s 150th anniversary in 2025

We invite you to celebrate with us

In 2025, Toowoomba Grammar School will be celebrating its sesquicentenary, its 150th anniversary. We are calling it Grammar 150 and this will be an incredible year for the School.

Created by the community for the community in 1875, TGS was founded to ensure that families have access to a high quality, holistic education for their sons within a welcoming environment that understands their needs.

Since the laying of the foundation stone on 5 August 1875 by Justice Lilley, the School has sought to grow and build our students to succeed - to succeed in their chosen careers, to succeed as sons, partners and parents and to succeed as leaders in their community and beyond.

Introducing Grammar 150

TGS has a community like nowhere else

Financial contributions of local graziers, businessmen and townspeople, matched by a donation from the Queensland Government enabled the creation of Toowoomba Grammar School.

Thanks to the vision of our first Headmaster, John Mackintosh, TGS has long had a focus on character development and that remains central to all that we do today. As one of Australia’s largest boys’ boarding schools, boys from all around Australia and the world have called TGS home over the last 150 years.

How you can be involved

We have a calendar of events for the year that will provide an opportunity for our whole community to celebrate and you are all warmly invited to join with us.

Whether you are an older Old Boy, a new graduate, a student during our Grammar 150 year, a current or past staff member, or a past, present or future family, there are a myriad of ways you can celebrate with us.

We look forward to celebrating with you

So many Old Boys, families and staff have made TGS what it is today. During the Grammar 150 year, we will honour their commitment and passion as we reflect on the past and those who have laid the foundation, which allows us to dream about what might be possible in the future.

We invite you to join us as we celebrate during 2025.

Dr John C. Kinniburgh – Headmaster
Mr Bronte Smith – Grammar 150 Chair and TGS Old Boy (1987-1991)
