The Toowoomba Grammar School community is celebrating following a history-making win on the weekend.

Our 1st V Basketball team has taken out the prestigious 2022 GPS Premiership, after a nail-biting victory over Gregory Terrace on Saturday.

There are nine GPS Schools involved in the competition, regarded as the highest level high school basketball competition in Queensland, so this victory effectively rates TGS as one of the best basketball-schools in the State!

The 2022 1st V is regarded as our best TGS basketball team of all time, recording an impressive 7-1 win-loss record this season and taking out the first Basketball GPS Premiership for TGS since the competition commenced in 1984.

It was a thrilling match for the Premiership, with TGS dominating for the first ¾ quarters, going to the final break with a 59-48 lead. But a determined GT outfit made a comeback in the final quarter, with the scores locked at 63-all with two minutes to go. It was then point for point, and 65-all with just 30 seconds remaining!

In the dying seconds – with just 1.4 seconds till the buzzer, Year 10 student, Sam Geu hit the basket for two points to win the match 67-65 to the jubilant cheers of a packed TGS Glen McCracken Sports Centre.

The game will be etched into TGS history as one of the greatest of all time and will no doubt be spoken about for generations to come!
