Dear TGS families

As I write, our Senior School campus is a hive of activity with new students and their families attending our informative Orientation Day. The Junior School campus is also busy with new boys and their families visiting to meet their teachers. All TGS staff members are eagerly anticipating the return of all boys tomorrow. After a number of COVID-impacted years, it is wonderful to be able to commence the academic year without disruption and in our traditional fashion.

I extend a very warm welcome to all returning families and particularly those who are new to the School. I trust you will find your involvement in our School community both engaging and rewarding. I also look forward to meeting with you in due course and encourage all new parents to engage with the beginning of year activities and social events where possible.

We have a number of new staff joining us this year and, in particular, I wish to welcome the new Head of Junior School, Mr Ken Raven, and his family, to our TGS community. Mr Raven is very much looking forward to meeting our Junior School boys and their families.

Over the coming days and weeks, there are myriad opportunities for the boys, their families and our staff to come together to celebrate our TGS community. From our youngest boarders who arrived on Sunday, 22 January, to our whole School welcome function this evening, through to our Junior School family welcome for Mr Raven, on Friday, there will be many wonderful opportunities to catch up with old friends and forge new friendships.

As they return to school, the boys will notice a few changes that have occurred. In the Junior School, we have refreshed and upgraded the playground astro turf. In the Senior School, the boys will enjoy using the classrooms in the newly refurbished Purves block. Families will also notice work has commenced on the School House refurbishment and the first stage of development will see a new Senior School student services area created to better serve the needs of our boys and staff. In addition to these improvements a significant amount of work has also taken place around the campus including: two new offices in Trenerry Gymnasium, two new School Counsellor offices, refurbishment of Centenary Dining Hall and general maintenance.

This year is going to be a busy one, with plenty of opportunities for boys and their families to engage in academic, sports, arts, music, drama, service, and cocurricular activities.

On behalf of all TGS staff, I look forward to welcoming you all and I particularly look forward to the buzz and excitement that the boys will bring to the campus.

I wish all members of the TGS community the very best for 2023.

Kindest regards,

Dr John C. Kinniburgh

Historic 1st XI Cricket Match

Historic 1st XI Cricket Match Toowoomba Grammar School is celebrating an impressive milestone against Brisbane Grammar School on Saturday, 12 March with our 1st XI cricket team playing their 750th match! This is a huge achievement for any sporting organisation, particularly considering this is counted on GPS games – so there are roughly only seven games each year; it’s taken a long time to reach this weekend’s historic occasion. It will presumably be another 37-40 years before they play the…
