Toowoomba Grammar School has taken out the 74th annual O'Callaghan Cup with a nail biting 38-33 victory on Saturday, 19 August.

It's the fourth consecutive year that TGS has secured the win in the iconic rugby match. Full credit to the Downlands College 1st XV who fought valiantly until the very end.

Year 12 student, Richard Dean was named TGS Old Boys’ Player of the Match, with TGSOBA President, Mr Mark Creedon stating "he bought magic to the game".

Grammar Downlands Day dates back to 1931, and is one of the biggest events on Toowoomba's social calendar, behind only the Carnival of Flowers. Old Boys from both schools return to cheer on their respective teams.

More than 8,000 spectators poured through the gates of TGS across the day to watch the various matches from the 13As up to the feature match - the O'Callaghan Cup (1st XV teams). TGS also proudly hosted the Modified Rugby Program participants and The Glennie School who was victorious against Downlands College in the Selena Worsley Cup.

TGS also welcomed teams from Nudgee College and Gregory Terrace to compete in supplementary matches.

TGS won 10 of the 12 games played against Downlands Day today, with DC winning one match and a draw.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers from both schools for making this iconic event possible. We thoroughly enjoy the friendly rivalry and great sportsmanship, it’s steeped in history and tradition.

We look forward to heading across the road to do it all again next year.
