Congratulations to our 2022 ATAR students for excellent results, highlighted by an improvement in the median ATAR.
We would also like to acknowledge the dedication and efforts of all the teachers who have supported and guided these students throughout their education at Toowoomba Grammar School.
Here are some of the key details from the 2022 TGS QCE results.
- The median ATAR is 87.6 (an improvement from 84.1 in 2021), whilst the mean ATAR is 82.83
- 10.4% of students achieved an ATAR of 95 or above compared with 5% across the State.
- 35.4% of students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above compared with 10 % across the State.
We congratulate Darcy Schmidt as Dux of Toowoomba Grammar School who achieved an ATAR of 99.3 and Liam Mulheron as Proxime Accessit. Most importantly, we are aware of many of our 2022 Year 12 students who have achieved their goals in terms of their results and in gaining entry to the course or pathway of their choice.

We will now analyse the results in greater detail to determine strategies for further development of our academic program into the future.
I would like to acknowledge all Year 12 teachers, Heads of Department and Director of Studies, Dr Alison Young, for their work with this cohort. I congratulate our students on their achievements, which we will be pleased to recognise and celebrate at the Scholars’ Assembly on Friday, 27 January 2023.
ATAR represents only a portion of career pathways for our students, and we would also like to recognise and celebrate our boys who have received apprenticeships, traineeships or other employment through the TGS Vocational Education and Training program and business partnerships.
TGS gives every boy to tools to forge his own path, to help him become a man of good character who will contribute to society and lead a meaningful life – that is our proudest achievement.

Top Volleyball Coach at TGS
Toowoomba Grammar School Director of Volleyball, Mr Eric Smith is one of the highest ranked volleyball coaches in Queensland following a recent accreditation course. Eric attended the first ever Australian-based Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Level 2 Coaching Clinic in July. TGS Musician Selected for S.H.E.P
Some wonderful recognition for talented Year 8 musician, Finlay Waring. Finlay was offered a place in the prestigious State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) for Southeast Queensland. SHEP was held at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane from 15-17 July, with the first wo days consisting of workshops and rehearsals, culminating in a concert on the final day. International Chess Master and professional player, Gary Lane is sharing his skills and knowledge at the three-day Toowoomba Grammar School Chess Clinic (June 21-23). Mr Lane has won the Commonwealth Chess Championship and represented Australia at several Chess Olympiads. Toowoomba Grammar School could have the next Stephen Spielberg in its midst, with Year 11 student, Ben Rosenberg reconised at a National Film Festival for the second consecutive year.
