Toowoomba Grammar School’s Open Futsal team has been crowned Queensland Futsal Champions after taking out the grand final in the FQ School Futsal Championships.

The FQ School Futsal Championships ran across two stages, with boys and girls in Years 7-12 competing within their own QSS region. The regional winners, runners up and some semi-finalists from each QSS region qualified for the FQ School Futsal Championships State Titles, where they competed against other qualifying schools for the title of State Champions.

The inaugural FQ School Futsal Championships State Titles were held on 21 June and 22 June at Nissan Arena in Brisbane, where 58 of the best school teams were split into pools within four competition categories of Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Senior Boys and Senior Girls, with the pool winners progressing into the knockout phase of the tournament.

Our TGS Open team consisted of Jaydahn Hearn, Sewmith Samaramwickrama, Jacob Austin, Taku Doherty, Joshua Zahra, Yoseph Bou Samra, Max Lomas, Ted Long, Kagan Cumming, Jack Haddow, with Coach Mr Mike Mulvey.

They played three pool games, the semi-final and final and were undefeated.

TGS now has the opportunity to represent Queensland at the proposed School Futsal National Championships in October.
